Gay Marshall Sings Piaf

Gay Marshall Sings Piaf

Just reviewed a FABulous new album by an incredible American actress/singer, Gay Marshall… It’s called Gay Marshall Sings Edith Piaf: la Vie l’Amour, and it’s wonderful.

Marshall sings a few songs in the style of Piaf (and does an incredible job of it), but it’s the songs that she’s interpreted, arranged and crafted herself – based on classic Piaf technique, sound and style – that really shine. She also adds in bits of English as well as offering up a few English versions of classic Piaf songs as well.

You can read my full review here, on EDGE, and buy the album here on Amazon.

Why is this so funny?

I have no idea why I love this so much, but I think it’s hilarious. I saw this box in Starbucks on Newbury Street yesterday after my (hellacious) 1.5 hour yoga class. (With an extremely creepy substitute instructor; the normal girl is “on vacation” in the Amazon. Bless her…)

Funny Frenchie? Not so much...

Funny Frenchie? Not so much...

The thing is, I don’t even know why I find the French phrase so funny. At first I thought it was because it rhymed-  except that it doesn’t rhyme because the word “côté” doesn’t rhyme with the word “haut” (it rhymes with, well, no english word… but it’s pronounced “coat-ay”). Maybe it’s just the fact that I like most of those French words- for some reason I’ve always had a fondness for ‘ce’ and “côté,” and the word “haut” is fun as well.

I’m pretty much a dork.
